The University of Alabama offers numerous resources to ensure students, faculty, and staff members have all the information they need regarding emergencies. Take some time today to learn more about UA’s emergency management, how to receive UA Alerts, how UAct assists students in need, and the training available to all employees.

UAct

The University of Alabama is committed to providing an environment for employees, students and campus visitors that is free from harassment based on race, color, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sex (which includes sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression), age, disability or veteran status. The University will not tolerate and will take action against individuals who retaliate against individuals who, in good faith, report violations of this policy or participate in investigations related to such policy violations.

UA Alerts

One of the methods The University of Alabama uses for emergency notification is UA Alerts. This system enhances the University’s ability to reach students, faculty, and staff by simultaneously triggering multiple contact points.

Faculty and staff members can update their contact information for UA Alerts by doing the following:

  1. Login to myBama.
  2. Select the “Employee” tab.
  3. Locate the “Update Your Directory Contact Information” section.
  4. Click inside the area/section of “Update Your Directory Contact Information.”
  5. A new window will open. Select the “UA Alerts/Personal Info” tab.
  6. Fill in your contact information in the UA Alerts section.
  7. Enter the contact information you want UA Alerts to use.
  8. Make sure you select “Apply Changes” when finished.

UA Safety App

The University of Alabama has created a safety app to provide students and employees with immediate access to information in case of an emergency. Features include a built-in GPS to every campus building and shelter locations, AEDs, and safety guidelines for potential hazards.

Distressed Student Brochure

Any member of The University of Alabama community may come into contact with a distressed student. Being aware of distress signals, methods of intervention, and sources of help for the student can help you feel more in control of situations that may arise. The mental health professionals at the Counseling Center are available to faculty and staff for consultation regarding these issues.

Emergency Management

The Office of Emergency Management is tasked with improving the University’s readiness for potential emergencies by developing and exercising emergency plans, supporting first responders during an incident, conducting training, and advancing the emergency management process.

Visit the Emergency Management website to find a variety of useful information to address cases of:

  • Severe weather
  • Campus-wide illnesses
  • Fire or explosion
  • Armed individual on campus
  • Medical emergencies
  • Other emergencies

Threat Assessment

The Office of Threat Assessment provides a Behavioral Threat Assessment website with information on how the University identifies possible behavioral threats and outlines how to report a person of concern.

On the Behavioral Threat Assessment website, users can learn more about the office’s mission, definitions, responsibilities, guidelines, FAQs, and how to report a threat.
